Netflix AI Discover Tab Launches on US TVs: How It Works

Published:

Netflix AI Discover is a new tab in the company’s TV app, an experimental feature that suggests what to watch based on a theme or mood instead of a long scroll through rows of titles. It was announced on November 3, 2026. The first group of users is in the United States, and the feature currently works only in English on supported TVs.

How AI Discover works

As described by TechCrunch and TheWrap, the tab opens on a set of themes, each previewed with clips from shows and movies. Themes are built around mood, viewing preferences, how much time you have, or what is new and trending. Examples named in the coverage include “Scare Me,” “Family Movie Night” and “Quick Watches.”

Once you pick a theme, Netflix shows a list of matching titles. From there:

  • More specific themes appear as you keep exploring, so you can narrow the list step by step.
  • A “Something Different” option resets the suggestions.
  • Each title gets a “Tune Your Recommendations” button next to Play and My List. It lets you keep a title in your lineup or tell Netflix not to suggest it again.

Netflix says the tab runs on a new intelligence layer that responds to what members tell it in real time and keeps learning. TheWrap describes it as a more interactive take on the existing recommendation system rather than a replacement for it.

Where and when

The rollout starts with eligible U.S. members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs. On those devices a “Discover” button with a red gem icon and a “New” label appears in the top navigation bar. Netflix says it will bring the tab to more people over the coming weeks. If you do not see it yet, you are probably not in the first group, and nothing in the coverage suggests there is a setting to switch it on.

A “test kitchen,” not a finished product

Netflix calls the tab a “test kitchen” where it will try new ways of helping people find something to watch. In its own blog post, the company says what sounds right for a quiet night in can look different for family movie night or a few spare minutes. Member feedback will decide which ideas are kept, improved or dropped, and some may later move into the main Netflix experience. That wording is important: the company has not promised that the tab, or any particular feature in it, will become permanent.

How this fits Netflix’s earlier AI experiments

This is not Netflix’s first AI discovery test. In May 2025, MacRumors reported that Netflix was testing generative AI search on iOS that accepted conversational requests such as asking for something funny and upbeat, in a small opt-in beta. It was also testing a vertical feed of clips and a redesigned TV home page with larger cards and a top navigation bar. The new AI Discover tab applies a similar idea, matching titles to a mood on the TV screen.

What has not been said

Neither TechCrunch nor TheWrap could say:

  • how many themes the tab offers or how often they change;
  • how large the first test group is;
  • which TV models and operating systems are supported;
  • whether AI Discover will reach other countries or languages, or phones and tablets;
  • what viewing data feeds the recommendations beyond what members select in the tab.

For viewers, the practical advice is simple: if the Discover button appears in the top bar, it is optional, and the normal home screen and search still work as before. Anyone who would rather not have a title suggested again can use the Tune Your Recommendations button.
