WhatsApp Now Available For Feature Phones Running KaiOS

KaiOS-WA

For those of you who don’t know KaiOS, it’s basically a web-based operating system devoted to featuring phones, and Google has invested a lot in the OS. What is clear, however, is that the platform currently doesn’t have a lot of apps to install and the absence of WhatsApp on the phone will make the phone less attractive. But things are different now, where the world’s largest messaging service is now available for KaiOS, so those who bought this phone can use WhatsApp on feature phones.

WhatsApp is now available for download from the KaiOS app store. The app is actually available on JioPhones running KaiOS in India so it is known that the app will eventually make its way to other devices as well. That’s what happened today.

The KaiOS iteration of WhatsApp allows users to call and message other WhatsApp users so they can use the functions exactly the same way they would use it on an Android or iOS smartphone. There’s even edge-to-edge encryption.

This app is compatible with KaiOS feature phones that have only 256MB RAM. But keep in mind that it will only be available on KaiOS devices running newer iterations of the software that have the ability to download apps from the app store. It is not yet known whether KaiOS sales will be expanded to other markets, but what is clear is that WhatsApp’s support for KaiOS can drive feature phone sales figures.
